The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) released a report detailing the progress made toward the state’s offshore wind goals in the year since Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 8 directing the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to fully implement the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act (OWEDA). As the report highlights, over the last year, the BPU has: Established an Interagency Agency Taskforce on Offshore Wind Began the process of developing a New Jersey's Offshore Wind Strategic Plan Opened the Competitive Solicitation for 1,100 MWs and a Framework for Future Solicitations Adopted the Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certificate Funding Mechanism Rules Since the signing of the Executive Order, the Board has solicited bids for the first 1,100 MW of offshore wind, the largest state solicitation to date. The Governor has also asked the Board to consider additional 1,200 MW solicitations in 2020 and 2022 as part of the 3,500 MW by 2030 goal. Board staff is now in the process of reviewing the applications for 1,100 MW and expect to announce an award at the end of June.

Did you know that 9 out of 10 homes in the U.S. are under-insulated? Sealing air leaks around your home and adding insulation can help you be more comfortable and can save up to 11% on your home’s energy bills. The attic is where you can often find the greatest opportunities to increase energy efficiency. Do you know how your attic’s insulation level measures up? If your home experiences any of these problems, it might be a good candidate for an attic insulation project: Drafty rooms Hot or cold ceilings, walls, or whole rooms Uneven temperature between rooms High heating or cooling bills Ice dams in the winter By adding insulation in your attic, you can maintain the desired temperature throughout your home much better. Combined with attic air sealing, it can also help to alleviate the formation of dangerous ice dams in the winter. Take the first step by measuring your attic’s insulation, so you can “Rule Your Attic!” Step-by-Step Instructions | | NJBPU RECEIVES TWO FEDERAL GRANTS TO ADVANCE CLEAN ENERGY GOALS | The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities accepted a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to perform a feasibility study and market analysis on electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and usage programs targeting low-income populations and multi-family dwellings. The NJBPU also accepted a grant of nearly $300,000 to address the analysis on procuring and financing advanced community microgrids. The Murphy Administration has aggressive goals for the deployment of electric vehicles. In his Executive Order directing the development of a new Energy Master Plan plan, the Governor stated that the plan should explore methods to incentivize the use of clean, efficient energy and electric technology alternatives in the state’s transportation sector and at the state’s ports. Increasing the use of EVs will reduce emissions, provide for a cleaner, healthier environment and help combat the impact of climate change.
