Hi reader, what's the craic?

There is nothing Dubai loves more than a mall. Even a penny-pinching Scot like myself can get carried away and wake up in a cold sweat after spending far too much money on a tub of Swedish sweets. And yet, no regrets.

When we think of malls in the city, Dubai Mall grabs our attention faster than an Apple Pay ping.

The jewel in the commerce crown of the emirate has just celebrated a major milestone as it welcomed an eye-catching 111 million visitors last year – smashing its record set the previous year. This makes it the most-visited mall in the world.

It's an impressive figure. Yes, around a million of those visits may or may not have come from our social media team checking out the many new openings for our Insta and TikTok pages. Hey, we're big fans – what can we say?

But this is just the beginning. In the next few years the shopping destination will, somehow, get even bigger with an upcoming expansion set to add more than 100 new stores and restaurants.

Will 'bigger is better' always be the way? How long until you or I live in a mall?
