Dear Mozilla Supporter,

Over the next decade, speech will become the primary way people interact with a whole range of internet-connected devices — from laptops and phones to digital assistants and retail kiosks.

Today’s voice-enabled devices, however, are inaccessible to much of humanity because they cannot understand many of the world’s languages, accents, and speech patterns.

We’re working to close that gap through our community-powered project, Common Voice. And today, we’re launching a drive to achieve 500,000 new voice contributions to our Common Voice dataset over the next two weeks.

You can help us achieve this ambitious goal and, together, we’ll help teach machines how real people, from all over the world, speak.

The Common Voice project has built a large, publicly-available voice dataset that will foster innovation in the voice-enabled technology wave of the future. It’s already the world’s largest public domain voice dataset, with more than 12,000 hours of voice data and 75 different languages. And it’s already powering impactful tools like a Covid-19 chatbot for people in Rwanda, and many other tools around the world.

When you contribute your voice, you’ll be helping us make the data more representative of people across the world and, in turn, make the whole dataset more useful for the innovators who wish to use it.
