Lifeline is a vital federal program that helps poor and marginalized communities connect to telecommunications services. These connections offer access to lifesaving services and information, like disability benefits, health care, job opportunities and so much more.
Tomorrow, Free Press and the Center for Media Justice will bring a delegation of Lifeline subscribers and direct service providers to the FCC in Washington, DC. We’ll be delivering petition signatures from over 30,000 people who are calling on the FCC to leave Lifeline alone.

Lifeline provides a modest but essential $9.25 monthly subsidy to most recipients, and this program is not funded by taxpayers. Yet the FCC’s Republican majority has proposed a rollback of the program that would rob millions of poor people of affordable phone and internet access and disproportionately impact people of color, seniors, veterans and those with disabilities. 1
The best way to #SaveLifeline is to take our message directly to the agency trying to end it. We need to let the FCC know that people are watching. We will not look the other way while they attempt to eject more than 7 million Lifeline subscribers, and leave large swaths of the United States without any Lifeline options.

The plan to gut Lifeline has drawn objections from Native American tribal leaders, poor people, single moms, unhoused people, people of color, elderly people, victims of natural disasters, veterans and people with disabilities, all of whom would be disproportionately harmed by this extreme proposal.
Tomorrow, impacted communities and advocates will come together at the FCC to share stories. They will demand to be heard by commissioners because Lifeline must be saved.
