Educated
|
Tara Westover’s life has been anything but normal, and her bestselling memoir “Educated” brought her story to millions of readers around the world. Raised by uncompromising survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she went from never being allowed to go to school or visit the doctor to earning a PhD at Cambridge and winning the National Humanities Medal. At the 2019 Aspen Ideas Festival, Westover sat down with the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg for a conversation about how she looks back on her childhood and what she has learned from her incredible and improbable journey.

Our Changing World with Thomas Friedman
|
“What defines a Promethean moment is the introduction of new technology or a set of ideas that doesn't just change one thing — it requires us to change everything,” explains New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. “We are here for a Promethean moment,” he emphasizes. During the past few decades of his career, Friedman has had a lot of opportunities to watch the world shift. Friedman has learned to look at situations from the ground up, by being in the middle of the action and talking to the people most affected. And he’s learned that to truly understand an issue, you also need to zoom out and
see things from multiple dimensions and perspectives. Friedman shares some of his biggest fears about the way he’s seen the world evolve, as well as his biggest hopes for how we can reunite and put democracy back together.
