John,
Bumping up Guy’s message from earlier today...
Midnight tonight is the deadline for our match: $50,000 from Craig Newmark Philanthropies for World Press Freedom Day. We need your help to cross the finish line. Please become a member right now to have your gift matched.
As despotic violence takes the lives of so many in Ukraine — and as world leaders and corporate stakeholders repress truthful reporting and propagate narratives that protect their own interests — we are soberly reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a country where freedom of the press is guaranteed by our constitution. KQED is ever more grateful for our journalists, newsroom team members and broadcasting staff for the robust, fact-driven coverage they bring forward each day. We hope you will join us today in celebrating – and helping to secure – the liberties of our journalists and the unremitting value of free speech in journalism worldwide.
I hope you can donate today to celebrate press freedom and the news and information you love on KQED. Listeners, viewers and readers like you make it possible!

| Dear John,
Today is World Press Freedom Day.
I’m Guy Marzorati, a political reporter and producer for Political Breakdown. Freedom of the press is vital to my work and the work of my colleagues. The decisions made by elected officials — at local, state and national levels — shape your life and the lives of your neighbors in a very real way. You deserve to know the truth about those decisions and what drives them. And, when it comes time for you to cast your vote (in next month’s primary election, for example), you deserve to make your choice with confidence.
Today is the last day to have your gift matched in celebration of World Press Freedom Day. Craig Newmark Philanthropies will double all gifts up to $50,000. We’re getting close, but we need listeners, viewers and readers like you to chip in to help us reach the goal!
The deadline to match is tonight. Please become a member right now!
I’m proud to work at KQED with some of the best journalists in public media. Member support gives us the power to bring you not just national, but also statewide and local news. Our members are the reason we’re able to report on issues that matter to your community.
Thank you for your support of public media and freedom of the press.
| Sincerely, | Guy Marzorati Reporter/Producer, California Politics & Government Desk |
