Living the life fantastic This week Julius Baer gave us an insight into how expensive living well is becoming. The firm’s writes that this year’s edition focuses on the yearly changes in the cost of living well, which, in the last year, has risen significantly for wealthy individuals. Asia continues to be the most expensive region in the world, while the Americas are becoming ever more affordable in comparison.
Asia is the most expensive region to buy a car, which is the single most expensive item in the basket. Shanghai is still the most expensive city in the index with four items ranked at the very top and the highest weighted average price increase (30 per cent). Taipei (3) moved up the ranking, mostly due to the prices of shoes, bicycles, and wine. Although Asia remains the most expensive region overall, Tokyo (8) is also the city which slid the furthest (previously 2), driven by 13 items ranking lower than in
the previous year and an average depreciation of -8.8 per cent on the Japanese Yen.
