Celebrating the free lunch

Diversification is the only free lunch in finance says Waverton Investment Management’s James Mee in our In My Opinion this week, and free lunches are what is required in markets that are proving to be challenging for investors.

"With the world seemingly so uncertain at the moment, it seems that there are more arguments than ever for spreading investment risks across different geographies, asset classes and risk exposures," he says. Mee describes Waverton’s multi-asset funds as global, active and direct.

The rise of the active fund in its ETF form is discussed over on Wealth Adviser’s sister title ETF Express, and an active management style lies behind the Turtle Creek fund that is about to launch in a Ucits format and is profiled this week by Harriet O’Brien.

CEO Andrew Brenton explains that the firm’s background is as private equity investors. "One of the key differentiators is that we do the work on any one of our companies as if we were going to buy the entire company," he says.

More active news comes from Chandler Publishing this week, which has recently added Institutional Asset Manager to its stable of titles, bringing the total up to three – ETF Express; Wealth Adviser and Institutional Asset Manager.

Bear with us as we go through the slow process of moving the titles out of their current platform and through a redesign. Take a look on Institutional Asset Manager now and read Nick Evans’ piece on the UK’s bid to create a crypto asset hub and his summary of the surge of inflows into hedge funds in the first quarter, which reflects exactly that active story we are covering in ETF Express. Click here to read the piece.

We hope that the combination of the three titles will keep you fully informed on global asset management trends. No small ambition, and definitely one that requires a great deal of activity going forward.
