Studying the form

The violence of the market falls at the end of February and the sheer volatility of early March has left everyone a little winded and we now have new think pieces, research, and advice flooding in from all corners.

Our features this week include a piece with StyleAnalytics whose CCO Damian Handzy reports that good active managers consistently outperform passive funds through downturns, a finding that is even more pronounced during times of market dislocation. Their study looked at performance against the Russell 1000 index over the past 25 years. Given that passive investment is supposed to mirror the index, not beat it, this seems a likely finding.

Over at Wealthinity, Taras Rybak, co-founder and Head of Investment Solutions of Fusion Asset Management believes that digitalising the wealth management sector will come through evolution, not revolution. The process will be more gentle, he says.

Other news comes from Boodle Hatfield who finds that super rich families are increasingly stepping into a private equity role, often for passion investments.

Voting is still open for the Wealth Adviser awards. All the information you need is here.
