Improving Infant Well-Child Visit Affinity Group State Spotlights Webinar

Thursday, February 8, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is pleased to invite all interested individuals, particularly those from state Medicaid and CHIP agencies, health plans, and their quality improvement (QI) partners, to join us as we feature state projects from our Improving Infant Well-Child Visit affinity group.

Please register at Mathematica WebEx - Register Meeting for the webinar, scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET.

High-quality well-child visits can improve childrens health, support caregivers behaviors to promote childrens health, and prevent injury and harm. The American Academy of Pediatrics and Bright Futures recommend nine well-care visits in the first 15 months of life. These visits should include a family-centered health history, physical examination, immunizations, vision and hearing screening, developmental and behavioral assessment, an oral health risk assessment, a social assessment, and care coordination as needed (source: Bright Futures). When children receive the recommended number of high-quality visits, they are more likely to be up-to-date on immunizations, have developmental concerns recognized early, and are less likely to visit the emergency department. These visits can also be an opportunity to screen parents for maternal depression and provide caregiver education.

From December 2021 through December 2023, CMS supported 6 states participating in the Improving Infant Well-Child Visit affinity group. This webinar will feature state QI projects from the affinity group, highlighting state strategies, partnerships, and lessons learned. The CMS Medicaid and CHIP QI program provides state Medicaid and CHIP agencies, and their QI partners, with the information, tools, and expert support they need to improve care and outcomes for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries. The webinar recording will be posted along with additional QI tools and resources on the well-child quality improvement initiatives page of Medicaid.gov. We hope you can join us.
