Today is Friday. Temperatures will be in the low to high 70s from north to south with sunny skies throughout the state. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

Guests had temps taken at Millinocket Lake wedding reception, but COVID-19 still took root

  • Records from an Aug. 18 inspection of the Big Moose Inn that the BDN requested shed some light on how the virus could have circulated during the Aug. 7 party celebrating a newlywed couple.
  • Maine still wants people without symptoms to get tested if they’ve been exposed to someone with the coronavirus. The message from Nirav Shah, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, came days after the U.S. CDC removed a recommendation from its website that asymptomatic people seek testing if they’ve been exposed to the virus.
  • Maine saw a slight drop in new jobless claims last week as Washington remains deadlocked over a new coronavirus relief package. But even as new jobless claims continue to fall, more Mainers remain without work than during the height of the Great Recession.
  • The Bangor Fourth of July celebrations postponed to Sept. 5 due to coronavirus concerns are now canceled.
Bangor High junior set out to do 15 things he’d never done in last 15 days of summer

  • “I wanted to make the last 15 days of summer count, instead of wasting time indoors on our phones or in front of the TV,” said Evan Soucy, 16. “We’ve all been home since March, so we really wanted to get out and try new things.”

Ad Watch: Ad against Susan Collins on Big Pharma blows up small parts of her record
  • A new ad from a Democratic super PAC goes after U.S. Sen. Susan Collins over the opioid epidemic, making two sweeping assertions that link back to only small pieces of her record, campaign and personal finances with one incendiary claim tied back to no more than a few of her husband's stock purchases.

Maine scientist describes what it's like to travel 2 miles deep to the ocean floor

  • Mike Coffin sank to the bottom of the ocean with two other scientists in a titanium sphere just 6 feet in diameter. “If something goes wrong, you can stay down for maybe two or three days, awaiting probably an unlikely rescue,” he said. But the risk was worth it for the 64-year-old Mainer, who honed his love for science in Bangor back in the 1970s.
Man accused of stealing N95 masks from Bangor City Hall indicted for theft
  • Jonathan McCue, 31, of Bangor allegedly took 80 masks and at least two boxes of medical gloves from the Risk Management/Finance Office overnight on April 1 and planned to resell them. The alleged theft came as the nation faced a shortage of critical personal protective equipment.

Explore Acadia National Park by bicycle on historic carriage roads
Winding through the forest around mountains and ponds, the 45 miles of carriage roads in Acadia National Park are a great way to explore the park by bicycle. These wide, smooth roads are closed to motorized vehicles (with a few exceptions), they feature massive historic stone bridges and lead to some incredible views of Mount Desert Island.
