Boeing to begin involuntary layoffs

Boeing is beginning involuntary layoffs this week as part of the workforce reduction that the company announced last month. The first involuntary layoff notifications will be delivered this week to approximately 6,770 U.S. employees, including an undisclosed number in South Carolina.

Warehousing company expanding in Berkeley County

Kontane Logistics Inc., a third-party warehousing and industrial packaging company, is expanding its operations in Berkeley County to better serve the Volvo Cars facility in Ridgeville. Kontane specializes in providing just-in-time services to the truck and automotive manufacturing industry.

Patriots Point receives $11,000 bridge grant

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum has received an $11,000 bridge grant from S.C. Humanities to help cover operational costs incurred while the facility was closed. Funding for the bridge grants was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the federal coronavirus relief bill passed in March. Patriots Point was closed for more than 60 days to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, reopening last week along with other attractions across the state.

Helping Out

Coastal Community Foundation and its regional partners in the COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund have raised more than $2.1 million since the fund's inception, and $641,745 has been awarded so far to nonprofits across coastal S.C.
