Charleston City Paper under new ownership

The weekly alternative newspaper was purchased by City Paper Publishing LLC, a partnership of Charleston School of Law President Ed Bell and Charleston-based publisher Andy Brack. Blair Barna, one of the three co-founders of the paper, will remain advertising director, and the other two founders will serve as consultants to the newspaper.

Groundbreaking for IAAM set for next week

A groundbreaking ceremony for the International African American Museum is scheduled for Oct. 25 on Wharfside Street in Charleston. Former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn will give keynote addresses.

Mount Pleasant named 2nd fastest-growing U.S. city

Mount Pleasant is the fastest-growing small city in the United States and second fastest-growing city overall, according to an analysis by personal finance website WalletHub. The analysis used 17 metrics to compare 515 cities of varying population sizes based on “sociodemographics” and the local economy.

The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek hosted the fourth annual Robert and Janice McNair Invitational, which raised a record $579,000 to fund scholarships for local students to Charleston Collegiate School and for Briar's Creek employees.
