Boeing could consolidate 787 operations

The president and CEO said the company was considering consolidating Dreamliner manufacturing into one location, which could signal closing North Charleston, moving all operations to North Charleston or a third option. The company also is considering an additional workforce reduction.

Private school SAFE grants halted by circuit court judge

Gov. Henry McMaster's plans to offer need-based grants to private schools have been halted with a temporary restraining order signed by an Orangeburg County circuit court judge. The complaint, filed by attorney Skyler Hutto for Orangeburg educator Thomasena Adams, challenges the legality of McMaster’s Safe Access to Flexible Education grants.

Blackbaud taking bbcon conference virtual

Registration is now open for bbcon, Blackbaud’s annual industry conference. The conference, usually held regionally and in-person, is strictly virtual this year and is open to the public for no charge. In a news release, the company said, “We wanted to reimagine the conference entirely. Part of that is acknowledging the hardships that have been placed on all industries, including social good organizations, because of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring all who will find value in attending bbcon 2020 Virtual will have the opportunity to join us for three days of thought leadership and best practices, technology trends and innovations and peer networking.” The conference is Oct. 6-8.

Carolinas publishers partner to launch book imprint

Advantage Media Group and American City Business Journals have created Business Journals Books, intended as a platform for small-business owners and executives to publish books in their areas of expertise.

Helping Out

Water Mission has received a $250,000 grant from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to support ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. The grant will contribute to two community-based projects: a solar array and a project to ensure safe water for schoolchildren.
