The quarterback position lost one star and gained another Sunday. First, the bad news: Sadly, Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending knee injury, one that will likely be confirmed as a torn ACL when he undergoes an MRI Sunday.
The good news? Taysom Hill shut the doubters (including myself!) up for at least one week with a really excellent first start against the Falcons. Sure, it was the Falcons, and the Saints drew up a game plan that didn't ask him to do much more than hit his first read, usually on a short pass, but the Saints are pretty good at drawing up those kind of plays. That Hill was able to hit on them -- including nine of 12 to Michael Thomas in a much-needed breakout game -- was a good sign. Because, he just needs to be passable to be as a passer, given his rushing ability. And he was that.
Hill figures to be one of the top waiver-wire targets heading into Week 12, while the fallout of Burrow's injury could have significant Fantasy ramifications. We'll have a complete review of Week 11's action for you tomorrow, but for now, check out my early look at the waiver wire and Heath Cumming's breakdown of the Burrow injury and what it means for the Bengals below. And, if you have any questions looking ahead to Week 12, send them to Chris.Towers@CBSInteractive.com with the subject line #AskFFT and I'll try to answer as many as I can in Tuesday's newsletter.
Here are my top five waiver wire targets, focusing on a few injury replacements and standouts:
  1. Taysom Hill (63%)
  2. Dallas Goedert (71%)
  3. James White (45%)
  4. Jordan Akins (4%)
  5. Damier Byrd  (5%)
The primary concern at this point is for Burrow. He's done for 2020, so now the question becomes when can we expect to see him in 2021? For context, Deshaun Watson tore his ACL on Oct. 29 of his rookie season, and was ready to get all of the reps by training camp of the following year. Training camp for 2021 is about nine months from now, so Burrow certainly could be ready by then, if all goes according to plan in his recovery. It's not a guarantee, but it's certainly possible. Which should mean he'll be good to go for Week 1.
That's the good news, but that's for 2021. For the rest of the season, Ryan Finley is set to take over at QB for the Bengals, and we got a taste of what to expect Sunday -- he completed 3 of 10 passes for 30 yards and an interception. Yikes. Finley started three games as a rookie in 2019, topping out at 192 passing yards, so expectations should be low. Tyler Boyd figures to see plenty of short-area targets, and figures to be the least impacted of the Bengals wide receivers. Tee Higgins' value takes a definite hit, given how dependent he was on Burrow's willingness to take deep shots and his ability to connect on them; we shouldn't expect the same from Finley.
Heath Cummings breaks down everything else you need to know from this injury, including how it might impact Giovani Bernard and A.J. Green and what it means for Burrow's long-term value.
