Dear John, Last week, I recorded an audio version of the book I wrote with Louise Hay called You Can Create an Exceptional Life. It will be released this October in honor of what would have been her 99th birthday. Hay House invited me to make this new recording different. While reading, I enhanced the teaching, shared personal stories, and added affirmation meditations and exercises to help deepen the work. Recording this book was both a moving and fun experience, made even more special by the production team. I was able to work with my favorite producer from my old Hay House radio days, Steve, and his lovely wife, Jenn. It was good to be with people I trusted because during the process, there were times when I got choked up remembering the conversations I had with Louise. There were also times when we couldn’t stop laughing. At one point, toward the end of the book, I made a joke about a line I’d written, and it created a mess. We all started laughing, then added to the joke, and laughed some more. By the time we hit record to finish, my stomach hurt, and I couldn’t get through my lines without cracking up again. Depending on how it comes out, we may release it as a blooper. It’s a strange thing to go back in time and relive the past in such a detailed way. While reading, I found myself missing my former life. I missed traveling with Louise and other colleagues, the excitement of speaking to large crowds, the joy of meeting readers while signing books, and the long dinners with fellow authors filled with laughter and interesting conversations. By the end of the first day of recording, I wished I could go back in time and relive some of the best moments with the awareness I have today. That’s because when I look back over my life, the only regret I have is not being there for some of it. I was so preoccupied with the next step that I forgot to look down and notice where I was standing. The gift of this regret is that it keeps me awake. Most days, anyway. Even in the wisdom years, we still have a lot to learn. Aliveness lives in the space between the past and the future, and when we spend more time in that spot, we really do get to live an exceptional life. Love, Cheryl
