| | Sunday, September 19, 2021 | Injuries are an unavoidable part of life when you're talking about Fantasy Football. That's just how the game works. But when they happen as often as they did Sunday, it feels especially unfair. All told, four different starting quarterbacks were forced to leave Sunday's game and were unable to return, and there were probably 10 other Fantasy relevant players who left on top of that. | Including essentially the entire 49ers backfield -- yes, just a week after they lost Raheem Mostert for the season. Elijah Mitchell's seemed like the least concerning of them, but only because he was able to return after both JaMycal Hasty (ankle) and Trey Sermon (concussion) exited the game. It was that kind of game for the 49ers, whose injury woes from last season seem to be carrying over. | | Tomorrow morning, I'll have winners and losers from each game on the NFL schedule this week as well as Heath Cummings' breakdown of the top storylines. For now, here's what you need to know from Sunday: | | | | - Andy Dalton (knee) -- Justin Fields took over at quarterback for the Bears in the second quarter, and while he wasn't great against the Bengals, he's got significant upside for Fantasy and could become a must-start QB very quickly, the same way Jalen Hurts did last season.
- Every 49ers running back -- Elijah Mitchell left with a shoulder injury, then JaMycal Hasty left with an ankle injury after three carries; Trey Sermon replaced him and got one carry in before leaving with a concussion. This one is going to be a mess for Fantasy this week, but hopefully we'll get some actionable intel before Tuesday night.
- Darrell Henderson (ribs) -- Henderson has been dominating carries for the Rams, so it will be a big deal if he has to miss time. Sony Michel is a capable backup, but with Tampa Bay on the schedule in Week 3, it may not matter much for Fantasy.
- Diontae Johnson (knee) -- The extent of the injury is not yet known, but Johnson had to be helped off the field after going down awkwardly on a meaningless final play as time ran out on the clock. That would be a devastating injury given the circumstances, since Johnson has once again been Ben Roethlisberger's favorite target.
- Jarvis Landry (knee) -- Landry sprained his MCL, per reports, though further tests will reveal more details, presumably. It doesn't sound like a worst-case scenario, but he could still be dealing with a multi-week absence. Given that Odell Beckham has yet to be cleared to play, this would leave the Browns incredibly shorthanded in the passing game. 16 of 21 targets Sunday went to running backs or tight ends.
| We'll have more on injuries in tomorrow's newsletter. For now, here's who you'll be looking to add in Week 3: | | | | | Here's who I'm looking at coming out of Sunday's action: | Top targets: | - Justin Fields, QB, CHI 78%
- Sony Michel, RB, LAR 71%
- Tony Pollard, RB, DAL 71%
- Michael Pittman, WR, IND 66%
- Rondale Moore, WR, ARI 45%
