Keeping up with everything that happens during a week of NFL action can be hard work. Believe me, I've got eight pages of notes from watching all of the games Sunday. There's a lot going on all at once, and you miss things. It happens. That's why you subscribe to this newsletter. Sometimes, you might know the big story lines from a given week, but you missed some of the less-heralded, but still important details that come from spending a whole day watching football. We're here to help you figure out what to make of both. |
I went through every game Sunday to identify the biggest winners and losers from each, along with some key notes you might have missed if you didn't watch the game — like the fact that Calvin Ridley could have pretty easily gone over 200 receiving yards with a couple of scores if Matt Ryan had just been a little more accurate, or the fact that Benny Snell might have some competition for James Conner's backup job. |
Heath Cummings also breaks down some of the biggest storylines from the week in his Believe It or Not column, where he tries to sort through the noise and find what really matters from Week 3 on guys like A.J. Green, T.Y. Hilton, and more. Plus, we've got early waiver-wire targets for Week 3 ready for you. Let's catch up. |

Week 3 Review: Winners and Losers |
|
Notes on everything you need to know from Week 3, but first, here are my give biggest winners and losers from Sunday's action: |
Biggest winners |
Mike Davis — He got the Christian McCaffrey role, and while he isn't as good as McCaffrey, he's good enough to be a must-start player with McCaffrey out. Allen Lazard — I'm really kicking myself for not having more faith in Lazard, given how much I liked him in the preseason. He was the No. 1 receiver in Davante Adams' absence. Allen Robinson — The squeaky wheel got the grease, and it didn't matter which QB was in there. As long as the Bears keep him involved, Robinson is a must-start WR. Jerick McKinnon — I simply didn't think he could handle a 48-snap role. If his rib injury isn't serious, he could be a must-start RB moving forward, even when Raheem Mostert returns. Broncos DST — Because they get to face the Jets next week. What a disaster that situation is. |
Biggest losers |
Mike Evans — I don't want to draw any conclusions yet, so I'll just say that Evans'' target share dropping to 16.8% and his average depth of target dropping from 15.1 to 8.6 yards looks a lot like what we were worried might happen in a worst-case scenario for Evans playing with Tom Brady. Carson Wentz — To borrow a phrase from Sam Darnold, Wentz looked like he was seeing ghosts out there. He was just bad, there's no sugar coating it. Tyler Higbee — Higbee has just 10 targets through games, right around what he averaged during his late-season five-game breakout run in 2019. It's also the same number he had through three games last season, when he was a Fantasy afterthought. JuJu Smith-Schuster — I don't want to start panicking, but a 17.4% target share is not what I wanted to see from Smith-Schuster. He's been good with what he's had, but the fact that Smith-Schuster had just five in a game where Ben Roethlisberger's new favorite target, Diontae Johnson, was knocked out with a concussion before halftime is pretty alarming. D'Andre Swift — I just did not see this one coming. Swift played only six snaps after leading the running back group through the first two weeks. He's back behind square one at this point. |

Believe It or Not: Time to panic? |
|
Sort through the noise to find what really matters as Heath Cummings tells you what to believe from Sunday's biggest storylines: |
"Now is the time to buy low on the Houston Texans." |
"While everyone enjoys a good Bill O'Brien jab, it's really quite unfair what the schedule-makers did to Houston. They started out with a road game against the defending world champions. Then they played Baltimore, followed by a road trip to Pittsburgh. It's no wonder Deshaun Watson is currently the No. 18 quarterback in Fantasy, just behind Mitchell Trubisky and just ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Things get a little easier in Week 4 with a home game against the Vikings. You should acquire Watson and the rest of the Texans before their get-right game." |
Verdict: Believe it. |
"Darrell Henderson will be the best Rams running back for the rest of the season." |
Verdict: ??? |
"A.J. Green and T.Y. Hilton are sits until further notice." |
Verdict: ??? |
"Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb are going to drive Fantasy managers crazy." |
Verdict: ??? |
