The first lineup lock of Week 6 Sunday at 1 p.m. is going to be one of the toughest of the season, because a whopping nine games are set to kick off in the early slate of games. That's nearly two-thirds of the entire Week 6 schedule, which means most of your decisions are going to have to be made early on today. |
We're here to help you make those tough decisions, with a multimedia blitz to answer your questions. First, read this newsletter for updates on the latest injury news for Sunday, then get some of your questions answered with the #AskFFT mailbag. Then, head over to CBS Sports HQ to watch Fantasy Football Today live through the start of kickoff for all of the updates and analysis you need. And if you want your specific question answered, we've got a few places you can do that: Head to Twitter and use "#AskFFT" with your question, because we'll be answering them all morning; or tune in to our Twitch stream, where Adam Aizer, Frank Stampfl and I will be answering all of your questions live through kickoff. |

Here are the key injury situations we're watching out for Sunday, along with some potential fill-in options if you need help: |
Quarterback |
- In: Baker Mayfield (chest/ribs), Kyle Allen (shoulder), Cam Newton (COVID), Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), Drew Lock (shoulder)
- Out: Sam Darnold (shoulder)
There aren't really any questions at quarterback for Week 6, thankfully. Newton is worth getting back in your lineup now that he's cleared to return, but the rest of this group is best left for two-QB leagues. |
- Fill-ins to consider: Andy Dalton (65% vs. ARI), Kirk Cousins (57% vs. ATL), Daniel Jones (36% vs. WAS)
Running back |
- In: Phillip Lindsay (toe), Zack Moss (toe)
- Out: Dalvin Cook (Adductor), Melvin Gordon (illness), Sony Michel (quadriceps/COVID)
- Questionable: Leonard Fournette (ankle)
Alexander Mattison should be started in all leagues with Cook out, and Lindsay is a solid starting option with Gordon out, though Royce Freeman could see some additional work with Lindsay making his first appearances since returning from a toe injury. Both are more like low-end starting options against the Patriots — as is Moss against the Chiefs. Fournette is not technically "questionable" — he is expected to be active but in a limited role. He did the same last week, playing one snap at the end of the game. He should continue to be avoided, with Ronald Jones still the go-to guy in Tampa. |
- Fill-ins to consider: Nyheim Hines (46%vs. CIN), Frank Gore (35% vs. MIA), Royce Freeman (4% vs. NE)
Wide receiver |
- In: Julio Jones (hamstring), Davante Adams (hamstring), Chris Godwin (hamstring), Odell Beckham (illness), A.J. Green (hamstring),
- Out: Sammy Watkins (hamstring), DeSean Jackson (hamstring), Alshon Jeffery (foot), Diontae Johnson (back), Corey Davis (COVID), K.J. Hamler (hamstring)
- Questionable: Darius Slayton (foot), John Brown (knee), D.J. Chark (ankle), Breshad Perriman (ankle)
Johnson is probably the only for-sure absence that comes as something of a surprise, and Chase Claypool has a good chance of a solid encore as a result. Otherwise, the biggest question marks are Slayton and Chark, both of whom seem more likely to play than not — I wouldn't necessarily want to start either, however. Jones, Adams, and Godwin aren't even on the injury report, technically, so expect their usual workloads in this one. |
- Fill-ins to consider: Christian Kirk (60% vs. DAL), Travis Fulgham (51% vs. BAL), Preston Williams (51% vs. NYJ), Adam Humphries (9% vs. HOU)
Tight end |
- Out: Noah Fant (ankle), Jordan Akins (concussion), Mo Alie-Cox (knee)
Fant seems like he's probably at least one more week away, though he did make real progress this week, so a Week 7 return isn't out of the question. |
- Fill-ins to consider: Trey Burton (21% vs. CIN), Cameron Brate (12% vs. GB)

If you want your questions answered, head to Twitter and use "#AskFFT" and we'll be answering them all morning. Here are some of the key questions I received Sunday morning: |
- Ric: Like many others, I now have Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le'Veon Bell on the same team. How do we play this moving forward?
Well, the good news is you don't have to worry about that in Week 6, because Bell still needs to be cleared through the league's COVID protocol, and that likely won't happen before Monday. That means at least one more week of CEH as the lead back against the Bills. I think both players can be Fantasy relevant playing next to one another, but this lowers the ceiling for both, so it really comes down to what your existing options are. If you're relying on the likes of Todd Gurley or David Johnson — decent players, but relatively low-ceiling ones for Fantasy — then you might be able to justify starting both Edwards-Helaire and Bell some weeks. I think your best bet is probably to just hang on to both, because nobody is likely to give you much in trade for either right now. You're hoping this ends up like the situation in Cleveland last year, where both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt were starting caliber players despite missing time, and I think that's a more likely outcome than one of the two running away with the job. |
- Peter: Do any Fantasy leagues have a place to put players that are on the COVID/Reserve list (like the IR)? That way you don't have to drop any players.
CBS Fantasy leagues allow you to place players on the COVID list on IR. |
- Steffan: We've seen Chase Edmonds be better than Kenyan Drake this season and I heard Dave Richard's comments on FFT saying how Edmonds looked faster. As a Drake manager, how concerned should I be about his future and should I be prioritizing trading Drake away or acquiring Edmonds? The Edmonds owner is asking for DJ Chark in return which I feel is too much but if they don't sign Drake to a new deal next year and Edmonds is the starter that might not be as crazy as it sounds. What do you think?
Personally, I've been pretty unimpressed with both Drake and Edmonds, outside of a few plays here and there, but I'm also pretty agnostic when it comes to how much RB talent matters. Edmonds could take Drake's job this season — Kliff Kingsbury went away from the incumbent last season, and David Johnson was more entrenched than Drake is. However, we haven't seen much evidence that they are planning on moving in that direction despite what the Fantasy industry wants to see. I wouldn't be giving up much of value for Edmonds — and Chark is too much to surrender, for sure.
- Mike: Standard league. Which four running backs for the rest of the season: Phillip Lindsay, Myles Gaskin, Mark Ingram, David Montgomery, Cam Akers, Joshua Kelley?
Top of the list is Montgomery, followed by Gaskin — they're the only two guys here who have a guaranteed role with high-value touches. I would go with Lindsay after that, because there's always a chance Melvin Gordon does get hit with some kind of penalty for his DUI last week, and we know Lindsay should have a decent role even if Gordon is around. The fourth spot is more of a wild card, but I would lean toward Akers, who seems to have the most upside of the remaining three. Kelley really looks like he's going to be behind Justin Jackson the rest of the season if he doesn't play significantly better moving forward. |
- Kris: I'm torn: Tyler Boyd or D.J. Moore? Myles Gaskin or Antonio Gibson?
It's hard to sit Boyd given the role he has, even with a tough matchup against the Colts on the way. Even in a disappointing Week 5 against the Ravens, Boyd still had four catches for 42 yards — comparable production to what Moore has done in three of five games this season. As for the running backs, I think I have to go with Gaskin here. He's got the guaranteed role and great matchup. I hope Gibson will be a reliable every-week starter at some point, but I'm worried there's still going to be too much J.D. McKissic in Washington's offense. |
- Steve: Chase Claypool or Tim Patrick?
I like Patrick, but it has to be Claypool with Diontae Johnson sidelined. I'm not 100% sure Claypool will continue to be the Steeler's top receiver, but you have to like his chances to continue to be productive. He's got the size and speed, and while JuJu Smith-Schuster and Eric Ebron will get their work, neither has been a primary focus for this team yet. Claypool could be. |
