EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy Sunday and “Spring Forward” day to all who celebrate. I, for one, can’t wait for longer days and outdoor dinners. Though, I may skip ordering a spicy marg considering jalapeños are apparently becoming less spicy. Something that still brings the heat? Going pantless like Sydney Sweeney, who wore $6K underwear to a fashion show. Meanwhile, on the more clothed side of the internet, Lindsay Lohan is out here giving us serious nostalgia, recreating “Parent Trap” scenes. Here’s hoping she’ll make an appearance at the Oscars tonight, if only to find out what’s in the nearly $180,000 goodie bags. Give Annie/Hallie all the swag.

Deeply important information

📷 Looks like Kate Middleton is taking things into her own hands. Amid intense Where's Kate conversations, the Princess of Wales posted a photo taken by her husband, along with a message on X.

🛍️ Emily Mariko’s $120 tote bags walked so $2.99 Trader Joe’s mini totes could run. Check out the bags inspiring Stanley-Quencher level hoarding.

🥦 In this week’s edition of WTF did I just watch: TikTokers are apparently using broccoli florets to apply their makeup. Helpful hack or the thing that’ll make me quit the internet?

🍽 From pop-up restaurants to four-course meals, college dining hall food is now bougie. But don’t worry, students are staying humble by drinking cheap beer.

😴 Some people will do anything for a good night’s sleep — including paying almost $2,000 a night to rest in a high-tech cocoon.

I can't look away.

Who would willingly choose to have their bathtub, toilet, and bed in one room? Bradley Cooper, that’s who. During a recent episode of Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, the actor opened up about the early days of fatherhood (a round of applause for saying the quiet part out loud), graced us with already much-discussed pooping TMI…and revealed that he sleeps in an open-plan bedroom and bathroom. Which is just a hard thing to get past. To give Cooper the benefit of the doubt, maybe the house came that way? Or, he hasn’t gotten around to renovating? He didn’t specify which home he was talking about, but assuming it’s the one he reportedly owns in the West Village (his ex previously confirmed that’s where their daughter lives; you can see some of the layout here), he’s had it for over five years — and the bathroom originally had pocket doors. Meaning, he chose to have “no doors.” Whatsoever.

The obvious question here is: Why??? Sure, this is a known layout for some hotel rooms — which, to be clear, needs to end, no matter how fancy the setup. But maybe those of us in the “absolutely not” camp have it all wrong. One design magazine calls the combined bed/bath a “growing luxury trend.” While an expert claims, “The coziness of the bedroom makes it a place of relaxation and comfort, so placing a bath there only further enhances this.” Perhaps we should just be grateful it’s not a “kitchen shower.”

Need something nostalgic to watch.

According to the experts: “Being rich, hot, and toxic never goes out of style”…at least, in pop culture. And no movie has never made that more clear than “Cruel Intentions,” which came out 25 years ago this week. Instead of feeling old as f*ck, might we suggest putting “Bitter Sweet Symphony” on your Spotify playlist and making time for a rewatch? Not only is it the movie that launched Reese Witherspoon’s career, it’s worth the $1.99 rental for the ‘90s fashion alone.

What are the earplugs we like again?

Loop Switch Earplugs

Ever tried to plow through a big work project while (a) your neighbor blasts their breakup playlist, (b) your kids dump every toy bin possible on the ground, (c) your partner interrupts every five minutes, or (d) all of the above? The solution is these ear plugs, which essentially give you a cute volume control on the world. They come with four sizes of silicone tips, meaning they’ll actually stay in place, while a little switch lets you toggle between three different noise-reduction levels. Finally, a way to put it all on mute.

Help, I’m so old…

Wondering why people are suddenly dressing like grandpas? Well, you can thank another TikTok micro trend. If 2023 brought us “coastal grandmother” and “Kendall Roy-core,” 2024 is all about dressing like an eclectic grandpa, a term first coined by Pinterest. Think: oversized cardigans, big loafers, and calf socks. As for whether to break out the orthopedic shoes, well, that’s up to you.

You probably saw the Red Bull Racing scandal continue to make headlines this week (if not, catch up here). But there was another Formula 1 controversy you might’ve missed: Earlier this month, Road & Track magazine published a provocative 5,000-word article titled “Behind F1’s Velvet Curtain.” Based on reporting she did at the US Grand Prix in October, the writer, Kate Wagner, chronicles the sport’s ultra-wealthy crowd (“the kind of money I saw will haunt me forever”) as well as the power dynamics between F1, its sponsors, and the press. But if you look up the story on Road & Track, you won’t find it; it was “mysteriously removed” just after being published…without any explanation. There’s lots of speculation about the reason(s) behind the retraction (the magazine’s editor in chief apparently felt “it didn’t fit with the site’s editorial goals”), but yesterday, after “a few days of negotiation,” the piece was republished on the Escape Collective. It’s worth the read.
