Happy Sunday. While the influencers have been traipsing through the desert this weekend at Coachella, I’ve been home doing what I do best: scrolling on the couch in sweats. My best finds, so far?
Hello, 911? We’d like to report that the internet is collectively unwell — and The Pitt is to blame. Specifically, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), the scruffy, stressed-out chief attending of a fictional Pittsburgh emergency room — who, thanks to his signature hoodie and stethoscope (occasionally paired with shockingly hot little glasses), soulful eyes, and all-around Good Guy vibes, has everyone from your mom to actual doctors in a chokehold. Or, as one person put it: “I want to be gentle-parented by Dr. Robby for 15 more seasons.” Of course, the, shall we say, affection shouldn’t come as a surprise given Wyle’s resume. For those who don’t consider Wyle to be a foundational crush, some background: The actor skyrocketed to fame playing baby-faced Dr. John Carter on ER — earning five Emmy nods, three Golden Globe nominations, and a spot on People’s list of most beautiful people in 2001. Plus, he’s an avid reader (he’s rumored to have started a lending library on The Pitt’s set), sometimes misdiagnoses his kids (with more than a decade of faux medical experience, who can blame him), and refuses to dance in public due to trauma from a 1984 bar mitzvah (relatable). Oh, and for those struggling to fill the Dr. Robby-shaped void in their life, good news: Season 2 isn’t that far away.
It’s been a rough couple weeks for fashion brands. No, we’re not referring to *gestures broadly at everything* or the Reformation controversy (though, that was also a thing). We’re talking about the frankly baffling Hunger Games x Sheincollab. Last month, the e-commerce giant and Lionsgate announced a limited-edition capsule collection that would allow fans of the dystopian YA franchise “to express their connection to the story in a stylish and meaningful way” — which, in an era of Nosferatu-inspired coffin beds and Wicked-themed luggage, almost makes sense, especially with the success of the recently released prequel. But as the internet quickly pointed out: Partnering with a fast-fashion brand that has a, to put it mildly, questionable labor track record to promote a book series critiquing wealth inequality, government control, and performative excess? Well, that’s a level of irony even the Capitol would find cringe. Nevertheless, the merch rolled out, and it includes $6 “Capitol Couture” crop tops and crewnecks stamped with “The World Will Be Watching.” (Correct, a tagline meant to evoke fear and control is now reduced to cozy loungewear.) Something tells us Suzanne Collins won’t be decking herself out in this.
Buckle up, because after a long two-year wait, The Last of Usreturns tonight at 9 pm ET. In season 2 of HBO’s postapocalyptic drama, Hollywood’s Most Chaotic Coffee Drinker (that’d be Pedro Pascal) and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie, the surrogate father and daughter who somehow survived endless peril, a deadly pandemic, and nightmare-worthy, zombielike mushroom men. Now, it’s five years after Joel chose to save Ellie’s life at the expense of a potentially world-saving cure (click here for a full recap), and the two have settled down in Jackson, WY, where they’re forced to reckon with the brutal choices they’ve made. While we don’t know exactly what’ll unfold (the show’s creators have said they didn’t stay faithful to the video game), we can safely expect more mushroom madness, impressive special effects, and several new faces (including Kaitlyn Dever, Jeffrey Wright, and Catherine O’Hara). Game on.
You don’t need to spend a ton of money on T-shirts ever, but especially now. We’ve long been fans of this Old Navy tee, and the fact that it’s $14.99 (but is often on sale for even less) is just an added bonus. It has a tight-but-not-compressive fit (ideal for tucking in or layering) and is just barely cropped. Plus, we love the elevated ribbed fabric, the excellent size range (XXS to 4X, as well as tall and petite), and that it comes in pretty much every color, including white, black, and butter yellow — which is indeed everywhere.
