But first: a smart solution for icy fingers

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy Sunday. Setting aside the estimated $22,650 Chanel outfit Taylor Swift reportedly wore to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs (I can only imagine what she and Caitlin Clark talked about) and the rise of concerning “Mary Jane sneakers,” it seems we could be entering an era of exceptionally practical beauty and fashion. My evidence? Not only are people making a compelling case for returning to the cheap shampoo they used in high school (Herbal Essences hive, assemble), but they’re also getting their “kid hair color” back (thankfully, mine is bronde, aka the shade of 2025) and trying out “soap nails” (they’re simpler than they sound). And, perhaps most exciting, extremely cozy jean-printed sweatpants are apparently one of the season’s trendiest fashion hacks. Count me in.

Deeply important information

📰  After a nearly three-hour delay, the 42-day ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas went into effect this morning. Today, three female hostages are expected to be released by Hamas, and Israel is expected to free about 95 Palestinian prisoners. During the first phase of the agreement, Hamas will release a total of 33 hostages — alive and dead — staggered over six weeks. They’ll include women, children, people with severe injuries, and those over 50. In exchange, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

📱  It actually happened. Last night, TikTok went dark in the US. TBD how long it stays that way, since President-elect Donald Trump said he will “most likely” give TikTok a 90-day extension after he takes office Monday.

👌 PSA: Shoulder pads are back. Not in an ’80s Working Girl way, more an improbably chic Hailey Bieber kind of way.

👭 Sure, it might seem a little boring and corporate — but, apparently, this could be the secret to keeping your adult friends

👀 You aren’t seeing things. Just about every pop star is using the same font. So, how long until it’s the new Comic Sans?

🤔 Call it the Babygirl effect, but adult bonnets and “balabonnets” are one of winter’s biggest fashion trends.

I can't look away.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag

If you had told our late-aughts selves that the world — fine, the internet — would one day be rallying around Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, we simply wouldn’t have believed you. But here we are. Last week, the formerly fame-thirsty, paparazzi-obsessed couple known as “Speidi” — who, post-Hills stardom, had been living a crystal-filled but otherwise seemingly low-key life in the Pacific Palisades — shared that they were among the thousands of people who lost their homes to the Southern California wildfires. Since then, the hummingbird whisperer has documented the aftermath for his millions of social media followers, posting videos that range from stark and somber (walking around their former neighborhood, sharing what he packed in his evacuation suitcase) to surprisingly humorous (see: one of the items from their home that did survive) to downright endearing (who among us hasn’t done an interpretive dance to Enya?).

People seem to be so touched by Pratt’s unexpectedly vulnerable side (never forget he was once voted the least appealing male celebrity in America) that when he asked followers to stream Montag’s 2010 album, Superficial, to help the family financially recover, the internet banded together. Nostalgic millennials, online personalities (like Perez Hilton, who gleefully skewered the couple back in the day), celebrities (looking at you, Paris Hilton), and even former MTV castmates have jumped on the Superficial train — sending the 15-year-old album to No. 1 on iTunes. Not to mention that the song “I’ll Do It,” which went viral in 2023, has reached even greater heights, taking over clubs and radio airwaves. Montag — who recently appeared on a massive Times Square billboard — told GMA that the “life-changing” support “has been such a light in such a darkness.” As for what’s next on the road ahead: Topping the Billboard charts? An Erewhon smoothie collab perhaps? Another reality TV comeback? Whatever it is, Speidi, we’re rooting for you.

Wait, who is this nepo sibling??
Dylan Efron

When a show combines some of the messiest Bravo-lebrities, the most legendary reality TV divas, a man somehow related to King Charles III, and a few celeb-adjacent randos, it can be hard for one contestant to stand out from the rest. Yet a certain Traitors season 3 cast member has done just that. Enter: Dylan Efron. Yes, that Efron. While the little brother of Mr. “Get’cha Head in the Game” mostly wasn’t in the headlines prior to joining the show, he’s amassed quite the Instagram following — which we can only assume has something to do with all the photos of shirtless outdoorsy activities, pensive-yet-sexy poses on the beach, and sweet moments with his younger sibs. What else do we know about this modern renaissance man, you ask? He has a popular YouTube channel documenting his various nature excursions (including swimming with sharks), he’s a proud dog dad to a rescue named Booey, he wrote a Lifetime channel movie script about “a love triangle gone wrong” (sadly, it never aired), and he has a bit of a rebel streak (see: he and Zac helping Grandpa Hal “break out” out of an assisted living facility). Now, as for whether Dylan will take home the up-to-$250,000 cash prize, who knows, but his big bro seems to think so. Plus, he’s already earned a chef’s-kiss nickname from Bob the Drag Queen — which is honestly a prize in itself.

Need something to listen to
Kristin Davis

If you, too, are impatiently waiting for the already-iconic third season of And Just Like That… (the most chaotic clothing in the show’s history and Patti LuPone??), we have something to hold you over. Nearly 27 years after Sex and the City premiered, the Charlotte York (sorry, Kristin Davis) is lifting the pink-tulle curtain on the groundbreaking show in a new podcast, Are You a Charlotte? In the first episode, which is out now, Davis revealed her surprising first impressions of the pilot, the lowball offer she initially received for her role (our jaws are still on the floor), and that she had originally auditioned to play a very different character. She also got emotional when reminiscing about the late Willie Garson, aka the beloved Stanford Blatch. TBD if costars like Sarah Jessica Parker will get guest spots on the pod, but Charlotte, we raise a cosmo to you.
