16 November 2022 Your key COVID-19 report Weekly Epidemiological Update16 NovemberGlobally, the number of new weekly cases increased by 2% during the week of 7 to 13 November 2022, as compared to the previous week, with over 2.3 million new cases reported. The number of new weekly deaths decreased by 30%, as compared to the previous week, with about 7400 fatalities reported. First joint WHO-World Health Summit strengthens engagement with a diverse range of partnersIn the first joint WHO-World Health Summit in Berlin, an event reaching some 60,000 participants worldwide from some 141 countries, WHO expanded and strengthened its partnerships with a diverse range of partners to advance global health goals. Some highlights from the Summit include a US$ 10 million funding agreement between WHO and UNICEF with KSRelief and new pledges to end polio worldwide. WHO Emergency Appeal: Ebola Disease Outbreak in UgandaWhen Uganda declared an Ebola outbreak on 20 September 2022 in the central part of the country, WHO’s response was based on lessons learned from previous outbreaks in the region, with national authorities focused on rapidly containing the outbreak and preventing it from spreading. WHO's appeal for US$ 88.2 million will help reduce death and illness, with minimum disruption to the country’s social and health systems.
