The Verge | After the keynote wrapped last week, we confirmed a few rumors from the past few months: the Pixel 3A is real, as is the leaked Nest Hub Max smart display. There is also a slew of announcements on what’s to come from Android Q when it officially comes to consumers later this year and some updates coming soon to the Google Assistant.
Ars Technica | In a report published on May 9, researchers at the threat-research company Advanced Intelligence revealed that a collective of Russian and English-speaking hackers are actively marketing the spoils of data breaches at three US-based antivirus software vendors. Ars Technica | Systems at a number of Baltimore’s city government departments were taken offline on May 7 by a ransomware attack. Police, fire, and emergency response systems have not been affected by the attack, but nearly every other department of the city government has been affected in some way. Baltimore Chief Information Officer Frank Johnson confirmed in a press conference that the malware was "the very aggressive RobbinHood ransomware" and that the FBI had identified it as a "fairly new variant" of the malware.
Tom's Hardware | Microsoft last week announced Fluid Framework, its platform for collaborating and sharing that will integrate with Microsoft 365 and, according to Microsoft, “break down the barriers of the traditional document as we know it.” Rather than a document, the company describes it as more of a canvas with co-authoring abilities. It doesn’t have to be just a Word document, spreadsheet, or a presentation. Instead, it can be a mish-mash of them all. And perhaps in a knock at current leader Google and its Docs, Fluid Framework will allow for co-authoring with multiple users “at speeds not yet achieved in the industry.”
