Confirm medical staff members' malpractice insurance

Every hospital sets unique policies specifying the level of malpractice insurance coverage practitioners must carry. When coverage is required by the organization’s medical staff bylaws, institutional policies, or rules and regulations, the medical staff services department must verify that each applicant’s coverage is current and meets the organization’s minimum standards.

New York Appellate Court: Unattributed statements in meeting minutes are not privileged

The Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Department (the "Court") recently ruled that parts of a hospital peer review committee's meeting minutes were not entitled to the state's quality assurance privilege. Due to an exception in that privilege, statements made by a physician who is party to a malpractice lawsuit are not protected from disclosure (the "party-statement exception").
