MPR News PM Update
Nov. 2, 2020

Great day to get out and vote!  Tonight will be mostly clear with lows in the upper 20s to upper 30s. Tomorrow will be sunny with highs in the mid-50s north to the lower 60s south.

Weeks of historic early and absentee voting come to an end todayas elections officials prepare to open the polls across Minnesota for Election Day.

Secretary of State Steve Simon says voter interest is very high, and may be approaching enough to challenge the state’s turnout record of 83 percent in 1956.

Remember to check your polling location before heading out to vote tomorrow. State elections officials note that many polling places are moving, consolidating or otherwise changing in response to the COVID pandemic -- including many moved out of assisted living and senior housing facilities.

State officials were also warning about the next key election deadline: Absentee ballots have to be handed over in person by 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

After a weekend of 5,000+ new cases, Minnesota reports another 3,000 COVID cases today. The state's COVID-19 positivity rate also continues to climb, now topping 10 percent over the last week. The rolling seven-day average hit a new high for the seventh day in a row.

The number comes on a record high Monday for testing, with nearly 38,000 tests reported. State officials also reported nine deaths, a break in a nearly week-long run of double digit death tolls.
