Claude Howell (American, 1915-1997)
"Art is a vital expression of human experience," writes Howell.
Claude Howell (March 17, 1915 – February 3, 1997) holds an established place in the vanguard of North Carolina art. A brilliant colorist and meticulous draftsman, he is best known for his intimate examination of the southern coast: the quality of light and life of its people.
Mullet Haul, 1947 is a perfect example of Howell's talent capturing the color and quality of light and the people of Wilmington, NC. See Mullet Haul, 1947 and several paintings and drawings from Claude Howell now on view as part of 20 Years at CAM. |
