Saints fans celebrate the most cathartic home opener in years

BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer

How 'bout dem Saints! We gotta agree with sports columnist Jeff Duncan: "Their 47-10 rout of the Carolina Panthers was so overwhelming, so head-spinningly scintillating and authoritatively dominant, it exceeded all expectations, even those of the most blindly optimistic Who Dat."

Water? Check. Batteries? Check. Gasoline? Check. Now's the time to get ready for a possible hurricane forecast to hit Louisiana later this week.

The system is expected to grow into a tropical storm today and may reach hurricane strength near the middle of the week  as it heads to the northwestern Gulf Coast. It could bring life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds near the border of Texas and Louisiana beginning Tuesday night. Heavy rain and flash flooding are expected from the coast of northeast Mexico into coastal Texas and Louisiana through Thursday.

Read staff writer Kasey Bubnash's report here.

Who's on first? When Sito Narcisse came on board as East Baton Rouge schools superintendent in 2021, he remade the school system leadership, hiring a number of new administrators, many from out of state.

Narcisse is now gone and the new man at the top, LaMont Cole, is taking a different approach.

As staff writer Charles Lussier reports, Cole is examining what’s happening on the ground before making major changes. “Most people work top down. I’m working bottom up,” Cole explained.
