Good morning, and welcome to the Saturday, April 20 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. Sure today marks the start of the NBA playoffs, but it also means we're less than a week away from the start of the NFL draft. With so much focus on Round 1, let's take a moment to focus on the other rounds, too. Round 2 receiver? On Friday's Saints Insider show, the gang debated whether a receiver would be the best bet for the Saints at No. 45 — or if they should do something else entirely. Personally, I think trading back would be a smart option if they can get another Day 2 pick — a concept that our own Jeff Duncan also wrote about for this weekend. But if they aren't able to get good value, a receiver would make sense. Luke Johnson is a big fan of Florida State's Keon Coleman. I'd be on board with that. If New Orleans pivots and looks to take a defensive player, defensive tackle is arguably its most notable need in Round 2. And don't worry, we have you covered there, as well. I took a look at which defensive tackles fit the Saints, who generally don't prefer big, beefy nose tackles. Outside of Round 2, the Saints have plenty of picks (for now) on Day 3. I took a look this week at potential sleepers at linebacker and cornerback, if you're interested. And if you only care about the first round, I also spent some time writing about Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga, a tackle who could make sense if Olu Fashanu is off the board. (He also might make sense even if Fashanu is available.) Anyway, that's all for now. Happy Record Store Day for those who celebrate. Take care, Matthew Paras |
