The former president was in New York today for a deposition. He said afterward that he invoked the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination. The amendment typically comes up in criminal proceedings, but it also has been used in civil proceedings to prevent one's words from being used against themselves in another venue. The deposition today was for a civil investigation.
