Good morning,

Welcome to your Tuesday newsletter from The Scotsman.

The First Minister is set to give an announcement today on the rising case numbers of coronavirus across the country.

It's a format we're all familiar with after 18 months living with Covid-19. Yesterday, there were 3,189 new cases of Covid reported but the good news is there were no new reported deaths of people who have tested positive - though it should be noted that Register Offices are generally closed at weekends.

It's principally people under 40 catching the virus at the moment and so the harm caused has been less severe but we expect health chiefs to sound a note of caution during the briefing the afternoon.

What time is the First Minister making update on coronavirus in Scotland - and how can I watch announcement?
