By Bob Warren ‘Just jokes’: Comedian Dave Chappelle is certainly no stranger to controversy. And lately, he told a crowd last night at the sold-out Smoothie King Center, he’s been deep in it. No spoilers here - you'll have to check out Keith Spera's coverage of Chappelle and Joe Rogan's show. Graphic testimony: Tense moments in a Covington courtroom Thursday as a former high-ranking sheriff's official took the witness stand and in graphic testimony accused former St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain of molesting him over a long period. Strain's trial on alleged sex crimes continues today with more testimony. We'll be there. And if you want, you can follow through tweets from reporters Marie Fazio (@mariecfazio) and Sara Pagones (@spagonesadvocat). Highway landing: Drive Louisiana’s roads long enough and you’ll think you’ve seen everything. Well, you probably haven’t seen an airplane land on a busy interstate highway. It happened on I-12 Thursday on the north shore. (Be sure to click the YouTube video in the post. It's surreal.) Sacred candy: Dining writer Ian McNulty backs away from the table to write about . . . Halloween candy? It's a force for social good, he say, so have a couple of bags ready. Oh, those Bucs: There’s big Saints game on Sunday. B-I-G big. The defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in town and the boys in Black and Gold have some payback on their minds. So many plot lines to follow – but don't sweat it, our sports folks have you covered. Get out and vote: Early voting gets underway Saturday for the Nov. 13 elections. There's a sizeable ballot across the region, including mayor and council offices in New Orleans and taxes in St. Tammany. (And while we're at it, our opinions team has made some recommendations.) Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today. BW |
