What do we make of the first depth chart?

Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, August 7.

The first preseason game is just three days away, so the Saints were required by the NFL to release their unofficial depth chart this week.

So what should we make of it?

Probably not too much. But beat writer Matthew Paras says there are a few notable items of interest on the team's first positional pecking order.

Who's got next?

There probably wasn’t a whole lot of discussion to be had when it came time to put Jahri Evans in the Saints' Ring of Honor. But columnist Rod Walker thinks these 10 Saints (past and present) should be next in line for the honor.

Doing the right thing

Longtime WGNO-TV sports director Ed Daniels is back in New Orleans, thanks to an assist from Saints owner Gayle Benson, who footed the bill for Daniels' medevac flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans. the popular Daniels has been in the thoughts and prayers of a many New Orleanians since suffering a heart attack while in Southern California to cover Saints training camp.

Giving a leg up

And while we're discussing kind gestures, Luke Johnson reports about another one from former Saints punter Thomas Morstead, who announced he will donate money to Steve Gleason's Team Gleason foundation in 2024.

New kid on the block

The United Football League is turning into a pipeline for the New Orleans Saints. The Saints added another player from the upstart league this week.

Making a move

With Jake Haener absent from Monday's practice at training camp, Spencer Rattler received extra reps at quarterback. Our Saints Insider crew broke down the rookie's progress on the latest episode of the Saints Insider podcast. Make sure you go to the YouTube channel to check it out.

That's it for today. We'll have more news and analysis throughout the week as training camp continues on the West Coast.

Until next time...

Cheers,

Jeff Duncan
