What does it mean to create technology, responsibly?
A new survey by The Webby Awards aims to understand what an ethical use of technology means to them - and how it can be achieved.
The Webby Awards is working on an exciting and important project focused on Responsible Technology, learn more below about how to participate.
When the first season of The Webby Awards launched in 1996, we were inspired by the belief that the Internet and digital technology can have a positive impact on the world. Nearly thirty years later, we still believe in the power and potential of the Internet to work for everyone, while recognizing the issues that threaten this - from lack of accessibility, inclusive design issues, to misinformation and data privacy challenges. However, we’re optimistic that by inspiring digital creators, leaders, and makers to create technological innovations in a more responsible way—and recognizing those who are already engaging in this work—we can get closer to achieving this original promise.
The 27th Annual Webby Awards will open this fall with a brand new suite of Responsible Technology categories. These new categories will be informed by industry research, and a trend report we are producing in partnership with Omidyar Network on the current state of responsible technology, including a survey we are conducting with industry professionals.
In the spirit of Responsible Technology and the open Internet, the survey will be as inclusive as possible. As a member of The Webby community who works to use digital technologies to impact the world, we want to invite you and your team to participate in our survey on the state of responsible technology. We value your input on what areas of technology need the most improvement, and what has already shown some progress. We want to have a group that reflects the breadth of the industry, and people who are actively working in areas pertaining to responsible technology, including but not limited to inclusion, accessibility, data governance and more.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the survey by this Friday, August, 12. Additionally, if you know anyone who is passionate about responsible technology, please share this with them.
