THE COST OF CONFLICT: New Orleans’ gun violence comes with a hefty price tag. A new study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine found that the publicly owned University Medical Center alone lost about $20 million treating gun injuries from 2016 to 2019. And that number only “scratches the surface,” the author said.
