The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

Good afternoon. It's been a busy day. Here are some of the things going on:

OMG it's Omicron

Gov. John Bel Edwards was in a familiar place today, holding a news conference to talk about the coronavirus. Today's installment featured the state's reaction to the omicron variant. Blake Paterson was there for us and will have a story shortly. In the meantime, here's a link to the video.

Death on the highway

Law officers are trying to figure out what happened along Interstate 10 near Prairieville last night. When Ascension Parish deputies reached the scene, a truck was blocking three lanes of the highway and a Zachary man had been shot dead.

Sex crimes trial

A Livingston Parish jury is deliberating in the first of three high-profile sex crimes trials expected there. Today lawyers gave closing arguments in the trial of a woman accused of rape and video voyeurism.

I feel good

Elyse Carmosino has the feel-good story about the effort to provide a car to a woman who recently left prison. Here you go.

Thanks for dropping in. Have a good weekend.
