Most managers don't get regular training – if any at all. In fact, 52% of organizations only train their managers once a year or less.

Statistically there's a good chance your company is falls in that group. And that's understandable. Training can be tough and time consuming – not to mention having to fight for resources and buy-in.

For a moment though, I want you to consider what happens if you do nothing. Whether that means continuing to not regularly train managers, using only offline training and/or training them the same old way:
  • Your new managers will likely struggle in their new role and either fizzle out or negatively affect the employees they supervise.
  • Your existing managers will continue make the same mistakes and bad choices that leave you wondering "how do they not know that?"
  • Finding the time and resources to train people will remain a challenge.
  • Training may be marginally effective at best – and managers will be unengaged and less likely to buy-in.
  • You'll continue to get the same results you've always gotten. Is that acceptable?
People get good at managing by having access to effective training throughout their careers. And as talented and capable people are trained to be better managers, they stick around and make broader and more valuable contributions to the organization as whole – contributions that compound like interest, driving up the value of everything around them.

If now isn't the right time to increase the impact of your managers (while making your job easier in the process), when is?
