Hi folks, what's the craic?

When I get asked by mates from back home in bonny Scotland what I love about Dubai, it can be tricky to jot everything down in a concise manner.

However, what it comes down to, for me, is that this city is at its best when it embraces its Arabic roots and traditions.

Don't get me wrong the other-worldly sci-fi projects are both cool and exciting to write about as a news editor. But the heart of the city lies in things like abras and the historical neighbourhood.

And there's no better time for the emirate's heritage to come to the fore than Ramadan (it's right around the corner in case you hadn't noticed).

Dubai takes on a more relaxed, community-led attitude during the month and some of our favourite locations lay on spectacular outdoor feasts at sunset.

And this year even the Burj Al Arab is getting involved with its first-ever Ramadan tent. While that's on the more lavish end of breaking the fast, there's also joy to be had in a bargain iftar.

Iftar season is well-and-truly here (you should see my inbox) and I can't wait to tuck into the most vibey shawarma of the year.

You stay classy Dubai,
