Jambo John!
For much of my life, I was “desperate and dateless.” (Actually, I got used to it and was happy enough, so the “desperate” part is more humor than truth.)
Then, in my 40’s and about to celebrate a record-breaking relationship milestone (on the verge of a 10-month anniversary), I found out my girlfriend... had a boyfriend... who wasn’t me. I wanted to die.
A few years later, however, at 47 and in Mexico to speak at a weekend event, I met someone amazing (who spoke no English!). Within a few years we were married, and now I joke with audiences that we believe not speaking the other’s language has served us well!
Of course, living in the US for the past 10 years, my wife now speaks excellent English (we still get along), and as you may know, we have a beautiful 5-year-old daughter. I feel like the luckiest man alive, except it wasn’t really luck. Read more about our most unlikely romance. |
