Greetings from – where else – home! I remember a time when I would write “Greetings from X” and each week, it would be a new city, state, island or country. Those days seem long gone but they will be back. The billion-dollar question is: when? The answer will vary but for some adventurous Americans, it seems the time is now.
TSA numbers have vastly increased from a month ago. Yesterday (Wednesday, May 27), 261,170 people went through U.S. security checkpoints and last Friday, a whopping 340,769. Those numbers include airport workers and flight crew but still, it’s a huge jump. If you are flying, please let me know what your experience has been, either by commenting on this post or via email, Twitter… I know with all the airline’s shrinking their schedules and aircrafts, planes are going out “heavy” (almost full) especially from hub airports.
A reader asked me this week if it was safe for them to fly from upstate New York to Florida for vacation in June. I wrote back saying that I’m not telling people what to do because no one really knows but personally, I wouldn’t get on a plane or put any of my kids on one anytime soon. Instead, I’m encouraging people to stay home and explore close to home and from a safe distance from people. Why take a chance unless you absolutely have to. I’m waiting to see what happens over the next several months.
What It’s Like to Fly to Australia During Covid19 One of my friends flew to Australia to see family so I interviewed her for my new podcast, Johnny Jet’s Travel Podcast. I asked her all kinds of questions from what the flight, arrival and the mandatory two-week quarantine was like (spoiler: she was in an all-expenses paid luxury hotel that U.S. presidents have stayed in).
