A few months ago, I joined a small group at my church—and it’s been a great experience! As I reflected on why it’s been so rewarding, I realized it’s a well-structured group. When we meet, we discuss the book we’ve been reading, going around the circle, each taking a turn to comment. Then we break into smaller groups where we work through a few questions designed to foster more intimate discussions of our spiritual life. The bottom line: It didn’t happen by accident. The leaders had a plan for the group and structured our time together well.
I think that’s true of most small groups; they need structure and intentionality to work. This week we’re featuring resources that will help the small groups in your church thrive. Our Small Groups Assessment Pack will equip you to take stock of what you’re currently doing—and then implement a plan to improve. Healthy Small Groups will help you determine areas of needed growth in your small-group ministry, as well as strengths that can be capitalized on and encouraged.
Small Groups Assessment Pack Often small groups run on autopilot, and no one steps out of the picture to see how the group can be made more effective. The seven assessments in this download help your group measure some common issues, including what it takes to lead a group, how to make small groups an outreach, and how to incorporate beneficial disciplines into your group. Healthy Small Groups Whether your church has a mature small-group ministry or is just starting out, this theme helps you take ministry to the next level. Brett Eastman, pastor of membership at Saddleback Church in Mission Viejo, California, applies Rick Warren's purpose-driven principles to "the smallest form of the church," the small group. Several assessment tools are included to help determine areas of needed growth in your small-group ministry, as well as strengths that can be capitalized on and encouraged. W. Charles Arn, Gary D.
