One outcome of the Alex Palou contract saga is that Chip Ganassi Racing could afford to let another of its drivers, Marcus Ericsson, go to rivals Andretti Autosport.
The 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner (and this year’s runner-up) will make the switch following his disgruntlement at a lack of suitable salary that reflected his success proved too much to bear. It ends a stand-off with team owner Chip Ganassi, who also couldn’t bear the thought of paying a driver who’d previously been bringing the budget to run his car!
Ericsson will take his talents to Andretti, which leaves that team’s current ex-F1 ace in limbo. Romain Grosjean started this season brilliantly, but his tail off in form dipped at just the wrong point, and now he must wait to see how it plays out.
