21 Black-owned Businesses to Celebrate at Juneteenth on the Waterfront

Tomorrow at the 4th annual Juneteenth on the Waterfront, Black-owned businesses kick off a month of Juneteenth celebrations in the Bay Area by showcasing a range of delectable dishes and vibrant artisan goods at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Meet the 21 Black-owned small businesses that will be selling delicious foods and handmade goods at tomorrow’s event, and a peek at what not to miss from each.

Tomorrow! Foodwise Demos: Rize Up Bakery & The Final Sauce

Join us for two Foodwise Demos: Azikiwee Anderson of Rize Up Bakery at 11am, and Brownie and Princess Sims of The Final Sauce at 12pm. Demos are free, with recipes and samples for all.

Make friends, gain skills, and give back by volunteering with Foodwise! Join us at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Saturday, June 8, at 10 am to learn about ways to get involved in our farmers markets and education programs.

Sustainability Service Corps is accepting applications for the AmeriCorps 11-month fellowship program, with Foodwise as a host partner site. The program offers a monthly stipend, healthcare benefits, UC Climate Stewards certification, and a $10,000 Education Award.

Intern Spotlight: Elijah Siegel

Elijah supported Foodwise Kids during the spring semester. "The most rewarding part about the Foodwise Kids program is building connections with the kids and seeing their view and understanding of food grow and develop throughout the field trip," says Elijah.

At the Foodwise Classroom, Viola Buitoni shared this recipe from her cookbook, Italy by Ingredient. This treat is perfect for peach season, or you can use any seasonal fruit.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market: Featured Vendors

K&J Orchards is a family farm in Winters, known for their popular cherries, apriums, and peaches. Visit them on Tuesday and Saturday. 

McGinnis Ranch grows herbs, vegetables, and flowers on their Certified Organic farm in Watsonville. Stop by on Tuesday and Saturday for dahlias.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Fox and Lion Bread Co. is a neighborhood bakery. Find them on Thursdays at Mission Community Market and at their cafe in the Mission.

Rian and Jenine Rinn run Sonoma County Meat Company, a butchery that supports small ranchers. Visit them on Thursdays for locally sourced cuts.
