Kickstarter plans to change its workweek to four days with no reduction in salary next year, and the UAE may be considering a similar switch for its public sector employees. The nonprofit 4 Day Week Global says benefits of such a shift may include happier employees and reduced stress, while a study from Alda and Autonomy found that "[w]orker wellbeing dramatically increased across a range of indicators, from perceived stress and burnout, to health and work-life balance."

The Landscape
President Joe Biden is readying an executive order that will call on the Federal Trade Commission to limit or ban noncompete agreements, eliminate "unnecessary" occupational licensing restrictions, and limit the rights of employers to share details of employee pay. The order is designed to deliver the "campaign promise to promote competition in labor markets," said Jen Psaki, press secretary at the White House.

Macy's plans one-day hiring event at 500 US locations

Macy's will hold a national hiring event on July 15 at upwards of 500 stores and fulfillment centers. The retailer wants to recruit thousands of new staffers across the country, including almost 3,500 in California, more than 1,600 in Texas and around 950 in Illinois.

The Labor Department announced 9.21 million job openings in May, a record high since the agency began tracking data in December 2000. In the wake of the pandemic, workers have been laid off, retired or have quit their jobs and are now looking for higher pay, leading to a complicated employment market.
