Dear Voornaam,

There is a buoyant mood at the Scottish Labour conference in Glasgow today, helped in no small measure by the overnight by-election wins in England. Our Political Editor Alistair Grant is there and told me on The Scotsman's daily bulletin how struck he was not just by the positivity, but by the size of the event in comparison with recent years.

Behind the scenes, lobbyists talk of clients falling over themselves to get access. There is a sense that power is within reach. But there is also a note of caution in Alistair's piece today - you can read it and watch the video here

We have extensive coverage from the conference in Glasgow and the wider fallout from Labour's by-election success running at scotsman.com, with much more to follow as it continues all weekend.

We also have an exclusive interview with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar here where he talks about his political destiny being bound together with Keir Starmer and how Labour's U-turn on the £28bn green pledge helps "build trust".

Looking ahead to the weekend, we are putting the finishing touches to a packed Saturday edition online and in print. Janet Christie has been chatting to multi-award winning Scottish writer Louise Welsh about her new book, To the Dogs. It leads the magazine tomorrow but subscribers can read it now here

No Six Nations this weekend, but that has allowed Rugby Correspondent Graham Bean to get his head around the restructure of Scottish rugby just announced which sees the Super 6 club competition scrapped and a national A-team reinstated.  He has everything you need to know here

Have a great weekend

Alan
