Alicia brought her light to Denver and beyond as a muralist, visual artist and tattoo artist. She was a Native Mexican American painter from Denver who took inspiration from tribal culture, the earth and its mathematics and her kid Xochitl Mayahuel.  She identified as Chicanative. Alicia had owned a tattoo and piercing studio in Denver for the last 26 years called Sol Tribe where she tattooed full time.

Alicia’s art was bold, nurturing, vibrant and sincere. CHAC was so honored to have her be the creative force and curator behind the “Generations” exhibit this year that brought together artists from different generations to show, highlighting the profound legacy that Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x artists have in Denver. Long time CHAC member, her father Alfredo Cardenas, was among the artists featured in this exhibit. It was beautiful to see them showing together. “Generations” exhibit will forever be in our hearts. Alicia’s art is a vibrant and loving force that will forever bring us peace, justice, creativity and connection to our ancestors and the earth. Alicia was a dedicated mother to her 12-year-old Xochitl. CHAC’s prayers are with her family during this tragic time.
