Dia de Los Muertos
CHAC is  proud to continue this annual celebration and is proud to be among one of Denver’s earliest organizations dedicated to this ancient Mexican custom. Dia de los Muertos is to honor, celebrate and pray for loved ones who have passed on. Beautiful altars are made with pictures of relatives who have passed on, calaveras “sugar skulls” and marigolds are placed on the altars along with items that deceased loved ones enjoyed in life. Families enjoy traditional Dia de los Muertos food and drink; such as, atole and pan de muerto. Today Dia de los Muertos is celebrated October 31st to November 2nd.

La Lorona
Traditionally this is the time of year CHAC storytellers tell tales of La Llorona. The La Llorona legend dates back over 500 years or more in the Southwest and Mexico. This is a legend about a women who is weeping for her children who drowned in a river. Growing up children are warned to be good, especially playing near rivers, or the ghost of La Llorona will come and get them. Many, many versions of this legend exist. So, it is up to you to decide which is the story you will tell.
