OBJECT:ART 2019

This year’s fundraising event on March 22 proved to be a most extraordinary experience celebrating Art in Action’s work empowering children through arts education. The theme, The Intersection of Art and Technology, wove art, tech, networking, and delicious cuisine into a memorable evening at the new Hotel Nia, a chic venue that embodied the spirit of innovation and creativity. 2019 Art Visionary Award honorees, Tony DeRose and Elyse Klaidman, formerly of Pixar Animation Studios, were a delightful addition to the evening as were students from Selby Lane School illustrating the importance of art and creativity in their lives. A special thanks to our generous sponsors and donors who raised over $170,000 to help us in our mission to ensure that all kids have art.

Grateful to our Funders

Art in Action’s vision is that every child has access to quality and relevant arts education that helps prepare them for future success. We are grateful to the dedicated and visionary partners who are helping us see this through. We are pleased to announce that we recently received grants from:

Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula Inc. - funding for a new initiative to work with teen girls who will create a STEAM lesson for younger girls.
Palo Alto Community Fund - support for underserved schools in East Palo Alto, CA.

Thanks! We would not be able to reach these students without your support!

Meet all of our sponsors and funders

Spotlight School: TechBoston Academy

Art teacher Julie Raskauskus marveled, "It's really nice to see my students so focused on their work. It's a luxurious departure from most of the projects that we have at TechBoston." Julie teaches art to students in grades 6-12 at TechBoston Academy, a Title I college preparatory school in Dorchester, MA. This is their first year using the AiA program supported by the Judy Sleeth Scholarship Fund.

And We’re Off Creating New Partnerships

As part of our strategic plan, we’ve been sharing our knowledge and lessons while widening our circle of partners! This year seven of our presentations were accepted to prestigious conferences nationally.

We kicked off the year attending one of several conferences, the Hawaii International Education Conference on Arts and Humanities, by leading with the "A" in STEAM. We were a big hit as we presented a workshop piloting new ART forward STEAM lessons to attendees and strengthened relationships with the Alaska Department of Education.
