We suffer from an epidemic of stiff ankles. There's isn't a specific cause for this, but rather a few reasons as to why we have weak ankles. For one, we all sit and almost no one squats which means no one is going into deep ankle dorsiflexion (angle between foot and ankle decreasing). Most people also walk along flat linear paths like sidewalks, roads, or hardwood flooring and almost no one moves through terrain of varied topography.
