Premier John Horgan said to those aged 20 to 39, who are driving a steep rise in cases in his province. His warning came as the province enacted a three-week “circuit-breaker,” imposing new restrictions on dine-in eating, gyms and worship services. “We have seen the start of exponential growth,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, as the province announced 2,518 new cases for the past three days. In addition, Henry shut down the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort because of rising numbers of cases, many the P.1 variant, and reports that restaurant staff were struggling to enforce masking and other public health rules. As of now, around 50 per cent of adults in the three territories in the North have received at least one dose of vaccine, with Yukon reporting 68 per cent of its adult population has received one dose. And that large-scale immunization can be seen in the lack of cases; Yukon has reported only three cases in all of 2021. While the overall number of hospitalizations has plateaued in Canada, the situation in ICUs in Ontario continues to worsen. As of March 30, there were 410 COVID-19 patients in ICUs in the province, just 10 patients below the second wave peak of Jan. 15, which came after two weeks of a province-wide lockdown.
